A new shooting has taken place in a mostly residential neighborhood that also includes a few boating-related businesses, according to the Associated Press. The area is not far from the popular tourist city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
This latest shooting has raised concerns because it comes shortly after another major violent incident in the region. Just one month ago, a mass shooting occurred in Myrtle Beach, where one person was killed and 11 others were injured.
According to police reports from that earlier case, a fight broke out along North Ocean Boulevard, a well-known area near the beach. Things escalated quickly, and someone opened fire during the altercation.
In the middle of the chaos, a police officer also used their firearm. The officer’s shot hit one person, who later died. Authorities confirmed that an investigation followed to determine exactly what happened and who was responsible.
Although officials have not released full details about this most recent shooting, the location and timing have once again put the spotlight on gun violence in South Carolina. Communities are still recovering from the previous attack.
