Mistaken Identity: Florida Man Shoots At Israeli Tourists Mistook For Palestinians

A Florida man was arrested and charged with attempted murder twice for firing shots at a car with two Israeli tourists, whom he mistakenly took for Palestinians. Officials reported 27-year-old Mordechai Brafman was arrested on Sunday in connection with the Saturday shooting in Miami Beach.

Brafman informed police that he had spotted two men he thought were Palestinians driving when he was in his truck and, thinking they were threatening him, pulled his vehicle over and began shooting. The victims were actually Israeli tourists and not Palestinians as Brafman thought. One was wounded in the shoulder, while the other was injured in the forearm. They both escaped the attack.

Human rights groups have sounded an alarm about a surging tide of anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian, and antisemitic feelings in the US after the Israel-Hamas conflict escalated in October 2023.
