Prescott was a key figure in Tony Blair’s New Labour movement and served as the longest-serving deputy prime minister in British history, holding office from 1997 to 2007. Born in 1938 in Prestatyn, Wales, Prescott began his career as a merchant seaman before entering politics as a trade union activist. His most notable role was as a Member of Parliament for Kingston upon Hull, a position he held for four decades. In 2010, he was made a life peer in the House of Lords, taking the title of Lord Prescott of Kingston upon Hull.
