US Vice President JD Vance is present in New Delhi with his family on a four-day visit, including a planned meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday night. His visit comes as bilateral tariffs between India and the previous US president, Donald Trump, are a major point of concern in US-India trade negotiations.

This is Vance’s first official trip to India. The schedule includes mostly cultural activities, but also includes discussion of current trade talks. He is joined by his wife Usha Vance and three children—Ewan, Vivek, and daughter Mirabel.

Net Worth and Assets

Based on a November 2024 Forbes report, JD Vance has an estimated net value of $10 million. A significant part of his wealth came from the popularity of his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis, which was sold more than three million copies.

Aside from his literary success, Vance co-founded an organization in 2017 named Our Ohio Renewal with the goal of fighting the opioid epidemic. In that single year, it was able to raise $220,000. Around the same time, his wife bought a $1.4 million house in Cincinnati, currently worth $1.8 million in 2024, according to Forbes.

The National Taxpayers Union Foundation (NTUF) website explains that JD Vance earns an annual salary of $235,100 as Vice President. He also has venture investments and liquid assets ranging from $3 million to $10 million, as explained by the same Forbes report.

From Hardship to High Office

Growing up in a financially strained home, Vance’s childhood was characterized by family instability. With his father away and his mother struggling with addiction, he had a stable home life with his grandparents. After completing high school at Middletown High School, he spent four years in the US Marine Corps before going on to study at Ohio State University and then Yale Law School.

It was in January 2025 that JD Vance became the 50th Vice President of the United States by being sworn into office, marking him as the youngest individual to be so since Richard Nixon.
