‘It Begins’: Elon Musk Teases As DOGE Gains Government Badge On X Despite Non-Official Status

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, along with Indian-American biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, have expressed enthusiasm about co-leading the Department of Government Efficiency in the upcoming Trump 2.0 administration. Notably, the official account for DOGE has already received verification on Musk-owned platform X as a government entity, potentially conflicting with the platform’s verification guidelines.

On Tuesday, President-elect Donald Trump announced that Ramaswamy and Musk will jointly lead the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, explaining that the new department’s mission will be to cut down on government spending and regulations.

According to Trump, Musk and Ramaswamy will “provide advice and guidance from outside the Government.”

DOGE’s X account has 1 mn followers so far

Within just two days of the announcement, the DOGE account on X now displays the gray verification checkmark, a designation typically used to identify accounts associated with governments or multilateral organizations.

According to X’s verification guidelines, eligibility for the gray checkmark is generally limited to accounts belonging to heads of state, government leaders, executive office departments, government agencies, and state or embassy accounts.

Since DOGE is not yet an officially recognized government agency, its gray checkmark may be in violation of X’s policies.

The DOGE X handle, which currently has 1 million followers, has posted twice so far, including a statement from Trump on Ramaswamy and Musk.

“Working overtime to ensure your tax dollars will be spent wisely!” read another post, which has garnered over 50 views. Sharing this on X, Musk commented, “It begins.”

Throughout the presidential campaign, Musk openly endorsed Trump, using his social media platform to rally support among Silicon Valley millionaires and frequently sharing supportive messages.
