President Donald Trump and Melania Trump visited areas affected by disasters in California and North Carolina on Friday, which marked their first official visit since the inauguration of Trump’s second term. His visit started in western North Carolina, where he came to evaluate the damage caused by Hurricane Helene. During a press conference, Trump was able to express his distaste with FEMA as it handled the hurricane response, even going so far as to say that he was contemplating “getting rid of” it.
The couple flew to Los Angeles, where wildfires had ravaged the region. California Governor Gavin Newsom was waiting for them at LAX. As the Trumps toured the disaster zones, Melania’s appearance caused social media to go wild with speculation that she did not look like the First Lady. The hashtag “Fake Melania” began trending on X as people questioned her identity. One person said, “Fake Melania is the fakest. She tried to walk down the stairs first & pulled her back. Then while he was talking she was steady scanning the crowd. Secret Service/PSD for sure.” Another one commented, “100% this is one of the fake Melania Trumps. You can always tell.”
I think Fake Melania is already back. Real one’s contract ran out after the inaugural festivities. https://t.co/2Ky53vwVHX

Before addressing the press, Governor Newsom embraced and welcomed Trump then Melania. He recognized the president’s previous support during COVID, saying, “We’re gonna need your support, we’re gonna need your help. I don’t forget that, and I have all the expectations that we’ll be able to work together.” Trump responded with confidence, saying, “We’re gonna get it done. We’ll get it worked out, ok?” He also noted that California would require significant federal assistance in the wake of the devastation.
