Iran Responds To Israeli Airstrikes, Reports 2 Soldiers Killed, Asserts Right To Self-Defense

Iran has officially asserted its right to defend itself following recent Israeli airstrikes that resulted in the deaths of two Iranian soldiers. The Iranian foreign ministry stated, “Iran has the right and the duty to defend itself against foreign acts of aggression,” citing Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

In a statement reported by Iran International, the ministry emphasized Iran’s commitment to use all resources to protect its security and interests while acknowledging its responsibilities for regional peace. It called on all countries in the region to work together to ensure stability.

The Israeli strikes, described as “precision attacks,” targeted military bases in Tehran province and other locations early Saturday morning, causing “limited damage” according to Iranian sources. Israel warned that Iran would “pay a heavy price” if it retaliated. The attacks were a response to a missile strike by Iran on October 1, which had aimed at Tel Aviv and resulted in an estimated 180 ballistic missiles being launched.

Iranian media reported multiple explosions in Tehran and nearby military installations, starting shortly after 2 a.m. local time. The Iranian armed forces confirmed the fatalities, stating that the soldiers died while defending the nation against what they termed as aggression from the “criminal Zionist regime.”

Iranian officials have stated their readiness to retaliate, maintaining that they reserve the right to respond to any act of aggression. In a statement from Tasnim News, an official emphasized, “There is no doubt that Israel will receive the appropriate response to any move against Iran.”

In response to the conflict, various regional powers, including Hamas, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon, have condemned Israel’s actions and upheld Iran’s right to defend itself. Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry denounced the Israeli strikes, reiterating its opposition to escalating conflict in the Middle East, which it claims threatens regional security.

In international reactions, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged Iran to refrain from responding to the strikes, stressing the need to avoid further escalation in the region. Meanwhile, a senior US official stated that Israel’s “targeted and proportional strikes” should conclude direct exchanges of fire between the two nations.
