Indiana Pizzeria Charges Customer ‘Bitching Fee’ in Bizarre Incident

An Indiana resident on Reddit described a bizarre restaurant encounter in which she was hit with a ‘$5 bitching fee’ at her local pizzeria after catching an error on her drink order. The strange encounter was upped in the r/funny subreddit and saw a quick takeoff in visitors.

The customer had ordered a Miller Lite, but the server accidentally brought a Bud Light. “I asked for a Miller Lite and she [the server] gave me a Bud Light. But because she had already opened the Bud Light as she was walking towards my table she couldn’t just switch it out,” the Reddit user posted.

Instead of complaining, the server supposedly gave the Bud Light for free and came back with the correct drink. However, the user was surprised when they saw an unwarranted charge on the final bill. “I wasn’t even going to complain, but my friend complained making me have to call out her mistake,” the user explained, going on, “Honestly, there wasn’t any bitching involved so I don’t know what that was about.”

Despite the total bill amounting to $24.78, it had a mysterious $5 charge titled “bitching.” The client jokingly said, “I’ve bitched enough in my lifetime to know that I’ve earned it. With that said I don’t think that I was bitchy at that moment.”

Incidentally, the diner did not even raise a controversy about the charge at that time. “I didn’t even bring it to her attention and just paid and left. I’m sure if I had she would have been completely embarrassed,” the user said.

Reddit Responds

Reddit commenters had a field day responding to the event, with most weighing in with humorous observations. One said, “Complaining about the bitching fee? That’s another bitching fee,” while another commenter cracked, “$22 for 3 beers, a pepperoni pizza, and bitching is a pretty good deal. Where is this combo?”

But others questioned whether the charge was legal. “This is amusing, but also likely a crime. You can’t invent spurious fees and then bill people’s cards. It’s wire fraud,” wrote one. Another asked, “As a company, can they actually charge this? Like, how is this not padding the bill for profit?

Others even joked about making it a legal case. “Was NO Bitching posted at the entrance? If not you should sue,” one commenter wrote in sarcasm, adding, “Just don’t know a lawyer that would put up with your bit** a**.”

From laughter to legal queries, the offbeat $5 fee has generated quite the controversy online.
