New Delhi, November 29: In a significant step toward enhancing India-Zambia relations, India has dispatched a consignment of advanced medical equipment to Zambia. The shipment, which left Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva port on Thursday, aims to strengthen Zambia’s healthcare infrastructure and improve medical service delivery.
The consignment includes hospital beds, operation theatre tables, infant incubators, anaesthesia machines, and resuscitaires, among other essential items. Highlighting this gesture of solidarity, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X, “Bolstering the India-Zambia partnership! In a gesture of solidarity, India is supplying medical equipment to the Government of Zambia.”
This initiative marks another milestone in the enduring partnership between India and Zambia. India’s contribution to Zambia’s healthcare reflects its commitment to fostering stronger bilateral relations, rooted in shared values of solidarity and mutual support.
India and Zambia have shared warm and historically significant ties. The vibrant Indian community in Zambia, consisting of around 25,000 individuals, has been instrumental in the nation’s economic growth. Many members of this community, particularly those with roots in Gujarat, have significantly contributed to Zambia’s trade, industry, pharmaceuticals, mining, and agriculture sectors.
India’s relationship with Zambia is also built on shared historical experiences. Zambian leaders, including Kenneth Kaunda, drew inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, which continues to resonate in Zambia. Over the years, successive Zambian governments have regarded India as a reliable partner, fostering cooperation for mutual growth and prosperity.
This shipment of medical equipment not only strengthens healthcare ties but also underscores India’s steadfast support for Zambia, reflecting the two nations’ shared vision for a healthier and more prosperous future.
