India-China Troop Disengagement from Ladakh in Final Phase

India and China are close to finalizing disengagement in Ladakh’s Depsang and Demchok regions. Defence sources confirmed that both sides have nearly finished removing temporary structures and fortifications set up during the 2020 border standoff.

Resuming Patrols Along the LAC

India and China plan to restart patrols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh by the end of this month. This will be the first patrol since tensions rose after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.

Dismantling Structures

Both sides are actively dismantling prefabricated sheds, tents, and other temporary setups used to support equipment, vehicles, and troops. This phase of the disengagement aims to remove all such structures in the contested regions.

Cross-Verification Process

Cross-verification of the dismantling should finish by October 29. This verification is essential for both countries to officially declare the disengagement complete.

Agreement for Two Friction Points

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on October 27 that India and China had reached an agreement to restore the pre-2020 arrangement in Demchok and Depsang. Talks are still ongoing for other contested areas along the border.
