In a powerful show of dissent, thousands of Americans took to the streets in all 50 states this Saturday, chanting “Impeach & Remove” in the fourth major wave of protests since Donald Trump assumed office on January 20.
Led by the grassroots collective 50501, which aims to host 50 protests in 50 states as one united voice, over 400 rallies unfolded nationwide. The protests aimed to highlight growing discontent with Trump’s policies on deportation, government purges, and international conflicts like those in Gaza and Ukraine.
Posters, Chants & People Power
From Washington DC to San Francisco, Americans came together carrying signs that read:
- “No kingship”
- “Workers should have the power”
- “Stop arming Israel”
- “Hate never made any nation great”
In San Francisco, demonstrators formed a human banner on Ocean Beach spelling out “Impeach & Remove,” visible from above as a dramatic symbol of resistance.
Protesters Stand Up for Immigrants & Federal Workers
Many protestors rallied in support of immigrants targeted by Trump’s administration and federal employees who were fired under his governance. A protester near the White House said:
“As Trump and his administration mobilize the U.S. deportation machine, we are building systems of resistance to protect our neighbors.”
Palestine, Ukraine Get Vocal Support
Protesters also waved “Free Palestine” banners while wearing keffiyeh scarves, demanding an end to US support for Israel’s actions in Gaza. Others called on the Biden administration to take a firmer stance against Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.
Voices from the Ground
- George Bryant, protesting in Massachusetts, said, “Trump is turning America into a police state.”
- Bob Fasick, a 76-year-old retired federal worker, shared, “If we don’t act now, the world we leave behind won’t be one we want to live in.”
At a protest in Columbia, South Carolina, demonstrators carried signs reading “Save SSA” and “Fight Fiercely, Harvard, Fight”, defending social safety nets.
Turnout May Break Records
According to The Guardian, if all 400 planned rallies occur, this movement could surpass the turnout of the April 5 ‘Hands Off’ protests, making it the largest anti-Trump protest wave yet.
From coast to coast, the message is clear: millions of Americans are ready to defend democracy and demand accountability.
