Hundreds of protests across Tesla’s showrooms globally on Saturday will be the largest protest so far in the burgeoning Tesla Takedown movement. Organizers, who call it the Global Day of Action, are staging rallies at more than 200 locations, including nearly 50 in California alone.

The movement, launched following Donald Trump’s inauguration, is against Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s increasing closeness with the federal government. Protesters are accusing Musk of slashing government programs, enabling mass firings, and concentrating power. “Nobody voted for Elon,” said Bay Area organizer Vickie Mueller Olvera. “He’s an unelected billionaire, destroying public services.

Tesla Takedown calls on activists to boycott Tesla cars, sell shares in the company, and protest. The group accuses Musk of “using Tesla’s wealth to undermine democracy” and seeks to affect his financial position. Under Trump, Tesla’s stock has fallen more than 35%, sales have declined, and resale values have reached historic lows. Musk’s net wealth has dropped by approximately $100 billion.

Trump and Musk last week displayed Tesla vehicles at the White House, decrying protests and calling acts of violent aggression against showrooms domestic terrorism. While Tesla Takedown denounces vandalism, various showrooms have been attacked by graffiti and Molotov cocktail attacks. A task force by the FBI was created to seek out perpetrators.

Tesla Takedown gathers steam, and protests now include 32 nations worldwide, among them Germany, Finland, and Australia. On Saturday, they expect their highest turnout so far. “Let’s send these techno-fascists a message loud and clear,” the protesters wrote on social media.
