Florida Teacher Under Investigation for Allegedly Sending Inappropriate Letter to 11-Year-Old Student

A fifth-grade teacher from BD Gullett Elementary School in Bradenton, Florida, is facing serious allegations after reportedly writing a disturbing handwritten letter to an 11-year-old student. The note, which included emotional declarations and requests for secrecy, has prompted an official investigation by both the school district and local law enforcement.

Jarrett Williams, the accused teacher, resigned from his position on April 23. His resignation came weeks after the student’s mother discovered the two-page letter and reported it to school authorities.

“You know I truly love you”

The letter, shared with News Channel 8 (WFLA), includes multiple troubling statements. Williams appeared to apologize for actions that took place on Valentine’s Day and repeatedly expressed affection for the young girl.

“You know I truly love you and no matter what, that will never change,” the note read. “I really love being your teacher and more importantly, I love how close we have gotten this year.”

He signed the note, “Your favourite teacher, only because I have to be’,” and asked the girl to keep their communication private.

Mother’s emotional statement at school board meeting

During a school board meeting held on Tuesday—where Williams’ resignation was officially accepted—the child’s mother, Ann Mitchell, gave a powerful statement criticizing the school and demanding accountability.

“This male fifth-grade teacher led my 11-year-old daughter into his classroom and spent 45 minutes alone with her while the rest of the students went to the library for their specials on Valentine’s Day,” Mitchell said, as quoted by ABC 7.

“Where is the accountability? She has nightmares and wakes up having cried in her sleep. This teacher stole a piece of her innocence.”

School district and law enforcement response

The Manatee County School District began an internal investigation after the letter was brought to their attention on March 9. Williams was reassigned the next day to a role without student contact.

A district spokesperson confirmed that the school board reviewed his resignation at the next scheduled meeting on April 29. The case has also been reported to the Florida Department of Education.

“His resignation was placed on the agenda for the very next school board meeting, Tuesday, April 29th, for personnel action,” the spokesperson stated. “The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office investigation remains open, and the district will continue to fully cooperate.”

Authorities indicated that a harassment charge related to bullying may be filed as the investigation progresses.

Investigation remains active

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident, and the school district has pledged full cooperation. No formal charges have been announced yet, but the allegations have sparked widespread concern among parents and community members.
