Elon Musk, one of today’s most influential entrepreneurs, holds a major role in Donald Trump’s administration. As the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), he was tasked with cutting costs, reducing bureaucracy, and modernizing federal operations. Musk introduced bold corporate-style reforms, including massive staff cuts and merging departments.
However, his presence has sparked rising concern inside the White House in 2025. A Rolling Stone report revealed that several officials find his behavior disruptive and difficult to handle.
Officials Call Musk “Irritating” and “Disruptive”
Tensions began building during Musk’s regular meetings with top officials. According to unnamed sources, cabinet members find him hard to work with. One senior official said Musk’s attitude felt like “listening to rusty nails on a chalkboard.”
They claimed he often made awkward jokes, interrupted others, and acted as if he was intellectually superior. This behavior, officials say, created friction in critical decision-making discussions.
Drug Use Allegations Surface
Some insiders even questioned Musk’s state of mind during meetings. They claimed he sometimes seemed “high,” which led to quiet talks about possible drug use.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Musk had allegedly used LSD, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms. However, Musk denied those claims. He said he only uses prescribed ketamine, which helps treat depression.
In response, Musk’s lawyer stated, “He undergoes regular and random drug tests through SpaceX and has never failed a test.” Still, doubts linger. Some officials even joked about making drug tests mandatory for everyone—including Musk.
Layoffs Trigger Backlash
Musk’s leadership style also sparked anger over mass firings. Since joining DOGE, he has overseen tens of thousands of employee terminations. His management approach felt overly corporate to many.
One controversial move included an email asking all federal staff, “What did you do last week?” Many saw it as harsh and unnecessary in a public service setting.
Musk Clashes with Senior Officials
Things worsened when Musk publicly fought with Peter Navarro, Trump’s senior trade advisor. Navarro reportedly dismissed Tesla as just “a car assembler.” Musk fired back on social media, calling Navarro a “moron.”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio also reportedly criticized Musk in private, calling him “Out of control Uncle Elon.” These incidents revealed deep cracks between Musk and key figures in the administration.
Big Donations Raise Eyebrows
Despite the internal tension, Musk remains a powerful political figure. He reportedly donated around $290 million to Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign. His financial influence, combined with his high-level role, has made some officials nervous.
They now question whether his behavior and leadership align with the government’s long-term goals.
Push for Musk’s Removal Grows
With frustration growing, some lawmakers are drafting measures to remove Musk from DOGE. They want to act within the next two months. Although no official move has happened yet, Musk’s clashes and controversies may speed things up.
