Elon Musk confirmed that he’s leaving the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) after a tumultuous but headline-making time in office. On his way out, Musk stood by his choices, justified his leadership style, and reiterated his whole-throated backing of US President Donald Trump.
In an interview, Elon Musk described Trump as “essential” to America’s future and predicted a one-party coup by the Biden administration. He also bristled against criticism of his DOGE cost-cutting and revealed violent retribution, including assault on Tesla stores and vehicles.

Musk Supports Trump, Refuses Biden Leadership
First, Musk did not leave it to speculation on which side his politics lay. He announced Trump‘s 2024 win secured America on its path. Trump, in his opinion, still is vital “to reach higher heights.
However, Musk did not hold back with Joe Biden. He referred to the administration as the “most radical-left, crazy administration ever.” In addition, he raised questions about Biden’s authority, stating, “Whoever controlled the auto pen and teleprompter was the real president.”
Moreover, Musk blamed Democrats for trying to inundate the nation with “illegal voters.” He argued that if Trump had lost, the nation would have been a “one-party state from which we could never recover.” To skeptics, Musk threw down the gauntlet: “Research more, and you’ll see it’s true.”
DOGE Tenure: Budget Cuts, Legal Fights, and Blowback
While at DOGE, Musk led a number of contentious reforms. He cut hundreds of millions of DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) contracts. He also cut the federal workforce, seeking to reduce runaway spending. Yet these steps soon drew lawsuits and intense public backlash.
But Musk was not bothered. “It’s not been boring,” he said to Lara Trump. “At least I didn’t get shot.”
Apart from litigation, Musk also had life-threatening experiences. Demonstrators burned Tesla vehicles and trashed stores. He attributed such acts to “bad actors” who attacked him and his DOGE crew. In the words of Musk, “That kind of backlash was somewhat inevitable.”
Why Musk Says Trump Matters Now More Than Ever ?
Earlier, Musk was a supporter of Barack Obama. But he changed allegiance during the 2024 campaign. Today, he believes Trump is the only leader who can make America great.
For him, Trump’s victory was not merely political — it was a matter of the country’s survival. He labeled the previous president as a bulwark against insidious left-wing creeping authoritarianism. For Musk, the other option was an entrenched one-party system that would destroy democracy irrevocably.
Musk’s Objective: Enabling Universal Civilization Progress
When questioned about his legacy, Musk hesitated not at all. “That I was useful in the furtherance of civilization,” he replied. He would like to be remembered for having enlarged human knowledge and for having advanced what human beings can do.
Every decision on his part — unpopular ones included — was directed to that end.
Billionaires Steering Federal Policy
Elon Musk’s position at DOGE represents more than the influence of one individual. More and more, tech billionaires are moving into policymaking positions. From AI governance to government overhaul, private-sector titans now contribute to national agendas.
This development provokes essential questions. Should unelected business leaders hold this kind of power in federal offices? As Musk departs DOGE, the controversy only intensifies.
