During their first joint press briefing in the Oval Office on Tuesday, both Elon Musk and President Donald Trump faced a range of questions, including those on immigration, tariffs, and a recent claim made by Musk. According to the claim (shared on X by Musk), the USA had handed over $50 million in Condoms worth of razors to Gaza under the presidency of Joe Biden.

Fact-Checking the $50 Million Condoms Claim

A reporter confronted Elon Musk about the misinformation after fact-checkers revealed that the funds were allocated to Gaza Province in Mozambique, not Gaza in Palestine. At first, Musk confirmed that his statement may have been also wrong, confirming the opinion, saying, “I’m not sure that $50 Million of condoms should be going anywhere. That’s an enormously large amount of condoms.”

Confusion may have been caused by the same name, “Gaza,” being used for a place in Palestine and a province in Mozambique. Federal reports further explained that the grant money was earmarked for an AIDS and STD prevention project in the province known as Gaza in Mozambique, as the US Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed.

Political Reactions and Criticism

The incident quickly drew political reactions. Democrats rejected the claims of condom distribution to Gaza as unfounded and politically motivated. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that a review by the Trump administration had found the $50 million earmarked for condoms, but she called it a “preposterous waste of taxpayer money.”.

Controversy peaked when allegations admitted that Hamas may have been using condoms to engineer incendiary devices, or “condom bombs,” by bombarding balloons with explosives and launching them into Israel. Musk had previously referenced this topic in a sarcastic post on X, mentioning “Magnum” condoms, a brand associated with larger sizes, which added fuel to the fire.

Musk’s Response and Appearance with Son

In a rare moment, Musk was joined by his young son, “Little X,” as he and Trump addressed the press in the White House. The issue of the condom controversy introduced an overt implication in their interaction regarding the other aspects during the briefing.
