US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that nations who buy oil or petrochemical commodities from Iran will be hit with secondary sanctions and will not be permitted to conduct any business in America.
In a post on TruthSocial, Trump said, “All purchases of Iranian Oil, or Petrochemical products, must stop, NOW! Any Country or person who buys ANY AMOUNT of OIL or PETROCHEMICALS from Iran will be subject to, immediately, Secondary Sanctions.”
He added, “They will not be allowed to do business with the United States of America in any way, shape, or form. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
US-Iran Nuclear Deal Talks Postponed
At the same time, US-Iran nuclear deal talks have been put back because of so-called “logistical reasons.”
The government of Oman, which is brokering the talks, said that a new round of talks would start. This will happen after an agreement on a date is reached between the two nations.
Washington and Tehran signaled last week that there had been some progress in the negotiations. However, much work still needed to be done.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that he was guardedly hopeful. A deal might be achieved if the US stayed away from “unrealistic and impossible demands.”
Donald Trump has promised that he will prevent Iran from continuing with its present nuclear program. He has also vowed to stop them from building weapons. Iran, however, has maintained that their nuclear program is peaceful.
Sanctions and Security Concerns Escalate
The United States has imposed numerous sanctions on Iran in a bid to make the nation alter its position but, Tehran asserted that they had the right to enrich uranium under their program.
US Defense secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday accused Iran of assisting Yemen’s Houthi’s in obstructing America’s trade and hurting their business interests.
Message to IRAN:
We see your LETHAL support to The Houthis. We know exactly what you are doing.
You know very well what the U.S. Military is capable of — and you were warned. You will pay the CONSEQUENCE at the time and place of our choosing.
