US President Donald Trump, speaking to a joint session of the Congress, confirmed that the terror suspect behind the 2021 Abbey Gate attack in Afghanistan was arrested. Trump thanked the government of Pakistan for helping in making the arrest.
“Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice,” Trump declared.
He also recalled the 13 US troops who died in the suicide attack and blamed the Biden administration’s pullout from Afghanistan. “Not that they were Not that they were withdrawing, it was the way they withdrew. Perhaps, the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country,” he said.
Criticism of Biden Administration’s Afghanistan Withdrawal
Trump called the US troop pullout from Afghanistan “disastrous and incompetent.” He stressed that he had directly spoken to the families of the 13 US soldiers who died in the bombing at Abbey Gate and referred to the day as a “horrible” day in history.
“This was a very momentous day for those 13 families who I actually got to know very well,” he went on, alluding to the trauma endured by the families of the victims as well as over 42 other serious casualties.
US to Revive Shipbuilding Industry
In his speech, Trump laid out proposals to restore America’s shipbuilding industry, both civilian and naval. He introduced a new White House office of shipbuilding to supervise the industry’s revival.
“To boost our defence industrial base, we are also going to resurrect the American shipbuilding industry,” Trump announced. “For that purpose, I am announcing tonight that we will create a new office of shipbuilding in the White House and offer special tax incentives to bring this industry home to America” he addded.
Blames Biden Administration for Economic Issues
Donald Trump blamed the ongoing economic crisis and inflation on the Biden administration’s policies. He claimed that Americans have endured the “worst inflation in 47 years” and vowed to undo the harm.
“As you know, we inherited from the last administration an economic catastrophe and an inflation nightmare,” he stated. “Their policies drove up energy prices, pushed up grocery costs and drove the necessities of life out of reach for millions and millions of Americans.”
The ex-president underscored that his administration is striving day and night to make America “affordable again” and “great again.”
End of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policies
Donald Trump noted that his government had ended “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) policies in the federal government, the private sector, and the military.
“We have ended the tyranny of so-called diversity, equity and inclusion policies all across the entire Federal Government and indeed the private sector and our military,” he said. “Our country will be woke no longer.
He insisted that hiring must be on the basis of competence and ability and not on gender or race, and he cited a recent Supreme Court ruling that endorsed his view.
Criticism of Democratic Lawmakers
Trump vented anger against Democratic lawmakers, accusing them of refusing to admit the success of his administration.
“This is my fifth such speech to Congress. And once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud. Nothing I can do,” he said.
He continued to imply that even if he were to discover a cure for a deadly disease or resolve significant economic problems, Democratic legislators would not be supportive.
Record-Breaking Executive Orders
Trump also pointed to his forceful deployment of executive measures since assuming office. He indicated that he had signed close to 100 executive orders and executed over 400 executive actions within the last six weeks.
“Over the past 6 weeks, I have signed nearly 100 Executive Orders and taken more than 400 Executive Actions – a record to restore common sense, safety, optimism and wealth all across our wonderful land,” he said. “The people elected me to do the job and I am doing it” he added.
Trump’s address outlined his government’s agenda, which includes economic resurgence, national security, and eradicating progressive policies. His statements elicited sharp responses from both his supporters and detractors as the US prepares for the next election cycle.
