The disturbing incident of an Indian student at Newark Airport in America has outraged people after a video appeared online. Posted by Indian-American businessman Kunal Jain, the video captures the student being handcuffed and pinned down by officers and deported. Jain said the boy was clearly upset and told he was treated like a “criminal.”
Demanding action, Jain called upon the Indian Embassy in the US to probe into the matter and help the student. On X, Jain posted, “I saw a young Indian student deported from Newark Airport last night— handcuffed, sobbing, treated as a criminal.” He further said, “He came in pursuit of dreams, not harming anyone. As an NRI, I felt helpless and sorrowful. This is a human tragedy.”

The incident is said to have taken place at Newark Airport, New Jersey. In the pictures shared by Jain, the officers are seen holding down the student. One of the officers can be recognized as being part of the “Port Authority Police,” an agency which is tasked with regulating transit security in New York and New Jersey. The Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) is the largest transit-oriented law enforcement agency within the US and protects key locations like airports, tunnels, and the World Trade Center.
In the subsequent updates, Jain stated that the student seemed to be speaking Haryanvi, a north Indian dialect.
He also mentioned that deportation cases like these are becoming increasingly frequent. In his view, Indian students are being turned back at the US border and deported for allegedly not explaining their visit properly during immigration procedures.
These kids obtain their visas and board a flight in the morning. For some unknown reason, they cannot clarify the purpose of their visit to the immigration officials and get deported on the evening flight bound like criminals. 3-4 such incidents are occurring daily. There have been more such incidents in the past few days,” Jain added.
The clip has since led to controversy regarding the handling of foreign students and the call for diplomatic action over such situations.
