A digitally edited clip of former U.S. President Donald Trump stating that Pride Month 2025 has been cancelled is going viral on social media. But as USA Today explained, Trump made no official announcement to this effect.
The viral video, uploaded on platform X, features Trump sitting in the Oval Office stating, “It is with great pleasure that I am announcing that Pride Month is cancelled. Pride is a sin. instead, June will be known as confidence month or maybe just June.” The impersonator version of Trump also includes derogatory remarks regarding gay sex that many have termed homophobic. The clip concludes with the caption, “This is a deepfake, but let people dream.”

I know he’s the president and all… but can Trump really just cancel Pride Month? Unreal. pic.twitter.com/QRe5PJChAI

Here’s the Real Story
Despite how realistic the clip appears, it is entirely fabricated. A community note attached to the video points out, ‘Digitally altered video. In the original video Trump is delivering an Easter celebration message’. The misleading content was shared by a user named Maverick Alexander, who has over 40,000 followers and identifies their content as ‘mostly satire’ in their bio.
Take a look at the actual video:
Pride Month, which is observed annually in June, celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of 1969, a pivotal moment in the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights.
While the viral video is a hoax, critics note that Trump’s legacy on LGBTQ+ issues has been controversial. Under his presidency, mentions of “transgender” were removed from the National Park Service website for the Stonewall National Monument. Trump also signed bills excluding transgender people from the military, prohibiting transgender women from competing in athletics, and limiting federal recognition to only two genders—male and female.
In addition, Trump has publicly denounced diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, leading some companies to scale back Pride Month promotion. Corporate-sponsored Pride parades, which were once ubiquitous, have been said to lose sponsorships under his leadership.
