Donald Trump’s health has remained a topic of discussion since he became the oldest person ever elected as U.S. President. However, a recent medical report released by the White House on Sunday stated that Trump is in “excellent health.” This was his first full medical check-up since he returned to office.
Trump continues to mock Biden’s age
At 78 years old, Trump often praises his own energy while calling 82-year-old Joe Biden “decrepit” and “mentally unfit.” The White House report supported Trump’s claims of good health. “President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” the report stated.
Doctors find minor issues
Despite the positive review, doctors noticed a few minor health concerns. Trump has sun damage on his skin and a scar on his right ear. That scar came from the gunshot wound he suffered during an assassination attempt in July 2024. A colonoscopy last year revealed he has diverticulosis, which means there are small pouches in the colon. Doctors also found a benign polyp and recommended another check-up in three years. Trump is currently taking four medications: two to manage cholesterol, one aspirin for heart protection, and a steroid cream for his skin.
Doctors praise Trump’s lifestyle
Trump’s doctors praised his routine and energy levels. They highlighted his “active lifestyle” and mentioned his “frequent victories in golf events.” Trump avoids smoking and drinking, though he continues to enjoy fast food and well-done steaks. He now weighs 224 pounds, which is a drop from 243 pounds in 2019. That change has made him look slimmer than he did during his first term. Speaking to reporters after the check-up at Walter Reed military hospital, Trump said, “I took a cognitive test. I don’t know what to tell you other than I got every answer right.”
Trump’s medical history remains controversial
Even though the recent report was positive, Trump’s health disclosures in the past have caused controversy. During his first campaign in 2015, his doctor Harold Bornstein claimed Trump would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.” Later, Bornstein admitted, “Trump himself dictated that whole letter. I didn’t write that letter.” In 2018, his White House doctor Ronny Jackson claimed Trump could “live to be 200 years old” if he followed a better diet. By 2019, Trump’s weight had increased to 243 pounds, officially making him higher weight for his 6-foot-3 frame.
Age plays major role in 2024 race
The 2024 presidential election featured the two oldest major candidates in U.S. history. Biden’s shaky performance in a televised debate in June triggered serious questions about his mental sharpness. Those concerns eventually forced him to drop out of the race. At the same time, Trump faced doubts as well. His nephew, Fred Trump III, described the family’s history with dementia in his book and warned of signs he noticed in Trump. He explained that Trump’s father, Fred Trump Sr., died eight years after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 1999.
Verbal errors raise eyebrows
Over the years, Trump has made several public mistakes that raised concerns. He once confused GOP rival Nikki Haley with Democrat Nancy Pelosi while talking about the Capitol attack. He also mistakenly referred to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as the leader of Turkey. On another occasion, he mixed up Joe Biden’s name with Barack Obama.
Viral golf cart moment triggers questions
In March, a video went viral showing Trump having trouble stepping out of a golf cart. Viewers quickly questioned, “What’s wrong with Donald Trump’s legs?” Although many people have raised doubts and shared concerns, the recent medical report appears to quiet those worries for now. It paints a positive picture of Trump’s overall health and fitness as he continues his presidency.
