AR Rahman Records 30-Minute Performance in Support of Kamala Harris’s Presidential Campaign

Musical Endorsement Ahead of Elections

Renowned Indian music composer AR Rahman has recorded a 30-minute performance video to support Kamala Harris in her presidential campaign as the US elections approach. This makes Rahman the first international artist from South Asia to publicly endorse the Vice President, who has both Indian and African roots. This endorsement aims to increase Harris’s visibility as she seeks to become the first Black woman and the first woman overall to serve as President of the United States in the elections scheduled for November 5.

A Call to Action for AAP Communities

Shekar Narasimhan, the Chairperson of the Asian-American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund, stated, “With this performance, A R Rahman has added his voice to a chorus of leaders and artists who are standing up for progress and representation in America.” The AAPI Victory Fund is dedicated to mobilizing eligible Asian American voters and native Hawaiians to actively participate in shaping the country’s future. Narasimhan emphasized that Rahman’s performance is not just a musical event but also a “call to action for our communities to engage and vote for the future we want to see.”

Highlighting AAPI Voter Importance

The endorsement from the 57-year-old music legend underscores the significance of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters in the upcoming election cycle and reflects the growing support for the Harris-Walz ticket. To build excitement for the performance, a teaser video featuring Rahman and MR Rangaswami, founder of Indiaspora, has also been released.

Performance Details

According to a press release, Rahman’s performance will showcase some of his beloved songs, accompanied by messages that promote Harris’s candidacy and her dedication to the AAPI community. This performance will be available for viewing on the AAPI Victory Fund’s YouTube channel on October 13 at 8 PM ET.
