Prince William is said to be preparing to strip his younger brother Prince Harry and sister-in-law Meghan Markle of their “His/Her Royal Highness” (HRH) titles when he becomes the British monarch. This action would follow Meghan using her royal title to promote individual business ventures, a royal insider informed The Daily Beast.
“Charles may be willing to tolerate this, but William won’t,” the source explained, referencing the Duchess of Sussex’s use of her HRH title on lifestyle products. The source further alleged William is “livid” with the way the couple is leveraging their royal status, stating, “He abhors and detests Harry and Meghan with every fibre of his being, he feels they have betrayed everything that the family represents and the notion that they are leveraging their royal status like a calling card will infuriate him.”
Meghan Markle’s Use of HRH Title
The row flared up again after Meghan, according to reports, signed off a gift hamper for podcast host Jamie Kern Lima with the moniker “HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” The hamper contained a “homemade strawberry sauce,” which came with a card stating: “With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”
As per sources, this move could have breached an understanding with the late Queen Elizabeth II, who had ordered Harry and Meghan to relinquish using their HRH titles for business purposes after resigning from senior royal responsibilities in 2020.
A pal of Prince William told Page Six that Meghan is taking advantage of King Charles’ unwillingness to make swift decisions. “Charles has entirely lost control,” the source reported, going on to say that the Sussexes seem intent on “making his last years a misery.”
The friend went on, “Meghan using her HRH exposes how weak and enfeebled he is. She knows he won’t do anything. There is no way King William will stand for this. The titles will simply be removed when he is king. A way will be found.”
Meghan and Harry’s Life After Royal Exit
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle resigned from their senior royal duties in 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have since moved to Montecito, California, with their children Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
Meghan, who is now 43, has rolled out a number of new initiatives, including her Netflix docu-series With Love, Meghan that premiered in March and has been greenlit for a second season. On April 2, she also rolled out her lifestyle company, American Riviera Orchard, which had items such as raspberry jam and lemon ginger tea on offer that quickly sold out, even with receiving mixed criticism.
