In a stunning disclosure, right-wing commentator Stephen K. Bannon informed The Washington Post that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent physically clashed within the White House during this April. The fight supposedly landed Musk with a black eye and caught immediate attention from President Donald Trump himself.
The row allegedly took place in mid-April when both Trump and Bessent separately spoke with Musk to make their case for their top choice for the head of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Trump agreed to Bessent’s choice, and this created a rift between the two high-ranking officials.
Shoving Match Expanded On Hints Of Trump Firing Bannon
Following the session, as the two men were leaving the Oval Office, Bessent is said to have confronted Elon Musk over his failure to deliver on promises of uncovering more than $1 trillion in wasteful and fraudulent government spending.
“You’re a fraud. You’re a complete fraud,” Bessent bellowed at Musk. Bannon said Musk reacted by shoulder-blocking him into Bessent’s rib cage “like a rugby player,” and bystanders then had to step in and pry the two apart.
Several aides were said to have escorted Musk out of the West Wing. Bannon went on to say that President Trump afterwards reacted to the event by remarking, “This is too much.”
Who Is Scott Bessent?
The Republican administration confirmed Scott Bessent as the first openly LGBTQ individual to a cabinet post. A graduate of Yale, Bessent built his reputation in international finance, including a critical role under billionaire investor George Soros during “Black Wednesday,” the 1992 currency crisis.
A former Democratic donor, Bessent later moved to support Trump and became one of his lead economic advisors. He was instrumental in promoting the extension of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.
Amazingly, Musk condemned Bessent’s appointment by stating, “Bessent is a business-as-usual choice. Business-as-usual is driving America bankrupt, so we need to change one way or another.”
