The royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, are often seen sharing humorous moments together, and their witty exchanges extend beyond private settings. According to one of William’s advisers, Kate initially didn’t fully grasp the importance of dressing appropriately as a senior royal. On one occasion, this led to a humorous, albeit brutal, remark from her husband.

Prince William’s Humorous Remarks

The adviser told The Times: “Before Kate realized that as a senior royal, you have to dress carefully, she once bought an outfit that William considered inappropriate. He told Kate she looked as if she’d just run through a charity shop covered in superglue. Everyone thought this was very funny, including, to her credit, Kate.”

Kate Teases William

But it’s not William alone who takes a kidding tone on Kate at one time or another. The Princess of Wales has had her share of bantering with her husband, particularly when it comes to his family. Sources close to the couple say Kate frequently jokes that William is starting to look like his great-great-great-grandfather, Edward VII, an aging process, The Express reports.

When the duke visited an art group in Shepherd’s Bush last year, he jokingly called Kate “the arty one” while decorating biscuits. Another sign of shared humor can be seen from interviews they did previously. In an interview for announcing their engagement back in 2010, William was asked whether Kate had posters of William in her bedroom. The prince was quick to laugh: “It wasn’t just one, it was like 10, 20 [posters].”

Kate replied with a quick retort: “He wishes. No, I had the Levi’s guy on my bedroom wall, not a picture of William. Sorry.”

Even on official trips, the funny banter of the couple catches the attention of the public eye. In a 2018 visit to the UK military base in Cyprus, the couple managed to share some lighthearted words with each other over William’s bad habits. While speaking with the soldiers, William jokingly warned, “Keep the pizza off the sofas!” to which Kate playfully responded, “You’re a nightmare with that.”

The style evolution of Kate Middleton has indeed been quite remarkable. Although specifics about her sartorial disasters during her younger years are obscure, the moment she transformed from loud pre-marriage attires to a much more polished and refined royal look was the one. She has become the face of international style today, inspiring fashionistas everywhere by sporting clothes by Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham. Her thoughtful dressing often reflects the cultures of host countries during royal tours, making her the recipient of the title ‘Kate Effect’.
