Karachi Blast: JIT Formed To Probe Killing Of 2 Chinese

Karachi [Pakistan], November 29: The Pakistan Interior Ministry has constituted an eight-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the Karachi Airport blast that killed two Chinese nationals, as reported by ARY News.

Led by the Deputy Inspector General of the Counter-Terrorism Department, the JIT includes officials from security agencies, Rangers, Special Branch, Karachi Police, and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The team will investigate suspects Muhammad Javed and Gul Nisa and submit a report to the Interior Ministry within 15 days.

The suspects were sent on a 10-day physical remand by Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court on November 23. Police allege that the duo assisted a suicide bomber who attacked a convoy of Chinese nationals near Jinnah International Airport on October 6. The attack killed three people, including two Chinese nationals, and injured 17 others.

The banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, though Pakistani authorities have not officially confirmed this. The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan condemned the terrorist act, offering condolences to the victims’ families and emphasizing the need for justice.

The JIT has the authority to seek assistance from additional investigative agencies to uncover the perpetrators and motives behind the attack.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Pakistan, particularly for foreign nationals working in sensitive areas.
