Bangladesh Lawyer Defending Hindu Monk Brutally Attacked, in ICU: ISKCON

Ramen Roy, a lawyer defending Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu Das in a legal case in Bangladesh, has been critically injured in a brutal attack, according to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The group alleges that “Islamists” carried out the assault and ransacked Roy’s home.

ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das stated that Roy is in the ICU, fighting for his life. “His only fault was defending Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in court,” Das said, urging prayers for Roy. He shared the news on social media with a photo of the injured advocate, calling for justice and awareness with hashtags like #SaveBangladeshiHindus and #FreeChinmoyKrishnaPrabhu.

Chinmoy Das, a former ISKCON priest and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote, was recently arrested at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while en route to a rally in Chattogram. Das, facing sedition charges, was denied bail and remains in custody, sparking unrest and violent clashes in Bangladesh.

Amid the protests, public prosecutor Saiful Islam Alif was killed during clashes, suffering severe head injuries. This incident has further heightened tensions in the already volatile situation.

Hindus, who constituted about 22% of Bangladesh’s population during the 1971 Liberation War, now account for only about 8%, reflecting decades of marginalization, exodus, and sporadic violence.

These developments highlight the risks faced by defenders of religious minorities in Bangladesh, ISKCON emphasized.
