Pralhad Joshi, the minister of union parliamentary affairs, invited the opposition parties to the special parliamentary session starting today on Monday. He claimed that during the all-party meeting on Sunday, the government had already made clear the Special Parliament Session’s agenda.
“Their (Opposition) request for clarification (of agenda) has been made clear in the all-party meeting yesterday. We have already announced our agenda… I request them to attend the Parliament’s journey of 75 years that will be discussed today as PM Modi has taken the oath to make India a developed country before 2047…”
The Parliament will meet in special session from September 18 to September 22. On September 19, parliamentary business will move from the old building to the nearby new cutting-edge structure during the session. Joshi announced on Sunday that the session would consist of five sittings spread over five days and that eight legislative items would probably be discussed.
“Parliamentary journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – achievements, experiences, memories and learnings” will also be discussed, he said.
On Sunday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag atop “Gaja Dwar” of the new Parliament building. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present on the occasion.
After weeks of speculation, the government last week announced an agenda that included bills to be taken up for consideration and a discussion on “Parliamentary journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha – achievements, experiences, memories and learnings”.
Joshi informed the leaders that on September 19, 2023, there would be a photo session from 10 a.m. to 10.45 a.m., followed by a ceremony in the Central Hall beginning at 11 a.m., which would be attended by the Vice-President/Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, the Leader of the Opposition
