After the Indian High Commission in the United Kingdom was vandalised on 19 March, the High Commissioner of India to the UK Vikram Doraiswami met with members of the Indian community who expressed concern about the incident.

As per the Indian High Commission in London who wrote on Twitter, the meeting at India House on Monday was also attended by Deputy High Commissioner Sujit Ghosh. The tweet of the Commission reads, “At India House, HC @VDoraiswami and DHC @sujitjoyghosh met with concerned Indian community leaders.

“I appreciated their solidarity in the aftermath of Sunday’s attack on the High Commission. @IndianDiplomacy @DrSJaishankar @indiandiplomats, @MEAIndia.”

On Sunday night, India summoned the senior-most UK diplomat in New Delhi to express India’s strong condemnation of separatist and extremist elements’ actions against the Indian High Commission in London.

Following the incident, a justification for the complete lack of British security that allowed these individuals to enter the High Commission premises was demanded. In this regard, the diplomat was reminded of the fundamental responsibilities imposed by the Vienna Convention on the UK Government.

In an official press release, the Ministry of External Affairs said that, “India finds unacceptable the indifference of the UK Government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK.”

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis took to his twitter and condemn the act as he said “I condemn the disgraceful acts today against the people and premises of the High Commission of India – totally unacceptable.”
