Two more killed in terror attack in Kashmir

As many as two teachers were killed in a terrorist attack at a government school in the Eidgah area of Srinagar on Thursday, said Jammu and Kashmir Police. A principal and a teacher of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School were fired upon by terrorists, in the Sangam area of Eidgah. In this terror incident, both received grievous gunshot injuries and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, both succumbed to their injuries. They have been identified as Supinder Kour (principal), resident of Rengipora Beerwah, and Deepak Chand (teacher), resident of Jammu. In an official statement, the police said that at about 11.30 am, Srinagar police received information about the incident following which Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh along with Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar, IG CRPF Charu Sinha and other senior officers of police/Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) reached the terror crime spot. An investigation is in progress, the police said. The area has been cordoned and search in the area is underway.

Earlier on Wednesday, a street hawker was shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar. The incident took place near Madina Chowk, Lalbazar in Srinagar where terrorists fired upon the victim Virender Paswan. Paswan is a resident of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district and worked as a street vendor. He was residing at Alamgari Bazar, Zadibal. Police said a search operation was underway by police to nab the terrorists. Also, a businessman was killed by terrorists in Srinagar on Tuesday evening. The incident took place near Iqbal Park in Srinagar where terrorists fired upon the owner of Bindroo Medicate namely, Makhan Lal Bindroo. Following this, Bindroo was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday said that the recent terror attacks in the Union Territory are part of a well-thought-out conspiracy in the backdrop of increasing tourist influx and planned industrial investment in Kashmir. Addressing a press conference today in Srinagar, Sinha said, “We had no such specific inputs. This is part of a well-thought-out conspiracy in the backdrop of increasing tourist influx and planned industrial investment in Kashmir.” The Union Territory has reported five terror attacks in the last three days including two teachers, a street hawker, and a businessman.

Sinha further said that the Union Territory is trying hard to manage this situation and take action against these terrorists who killed five people in the last three days, “The targeted terror attacks on innocents are part of an attempt to disturb communal harmony here. All efforts will be made to ensure that (terrorists’) attempts don’t succeed,” Sinha further said. Sinha added that he has ordered all the security agencies to take action freely against these terror attacks.

In New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting and discussed the overall security situation across the country, including Jammu and Kashmir and anti-drone strategy. In the nearly three-hour meeting, Shah reviewed the internal security matters and discussed the roadmap for the upcoming expected challenges as well as current killings in Jammu and Kashmir, said sources in the government. As per Home Ministry officials, it was a “regular overall security meeting” in which National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director Intelligence Bureau Arvind Kumar, Border Security Director General Pankaj Singh, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Chief Kuldiep Singh and other Home Ministry officials participated.

In the meeting, which started around 12 noon and ended around 2.45 pm, sources said, the Home Minister took stock of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Besides, a source said, anti-drone strategy and other security issues linked to Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country were discussed. Terrorists planning to hatch conspiracies and misuse of social media from across the border were also learnt to be discussed among other major issues.

Top government sources said on Thursday that Pakistan-based terrorist groups were using hybrid terrorists to disrupt the atmosphere of peace and prosperity in J&K. “The hybrid terrorists used by these terror groups for these targeted killings are mostly engaged in normal jobs and are used for such killings using small weapons. They return to their normal routine after carrying out such acts,” top government sources said. They said the security forces have received inputs about many of these youth and strict action is underway. Sources said the number of such youths is quite significant and their identification is being done rapidly.
