The deep depression in the Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rainfall in North coastal and Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh and some parts of Telangana especially in the city of Hyderabad on Monday.

A house in the old city of Hyderabad collapsed due to heavy rain and two women Farah Begum (24) and Anees Begum (18) lost their lives. Five people were also injured and were shifted to the hospital immediately.

Heavy rains have started in East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam. Winds were blowing at the speed of 40-50 km per hour in these parts. The Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the system is likely to cross the north Andhra Pradesh coast between Narsapur and Visakhapatnam. The wind speed may go up to 55 to 65 Kmph.

Due to the depression, thunderstorms are also likely and more than 15 cm rainfall is expected in many parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rains in Telangana for 48 hours. Thunderstorms are also predicted accompanied by lightning to occur at isolated places over Telangana.

“Massive flooding is to occur in low lying areas. The uprooting of trees and electric poles can lead to disruption of normal activities. Reservoirs, tanks, and streams may overflow causing inundation of lowlying areas and cause low bridges and causeways to overflow, posing threat to traffic and people,” said Somesh Kumar, Chief Secretary, Telangana.
