Donald Trump has sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s recent Oval Office address, calling it “so bad” and “barely understandable” on his Truth Social account. Trump’s remarks came shortly after Biden announced his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race in an effort to unite the country.
Trump described Biden’s speech as “barely understandable” and criticized both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, stating, “Crooked Joe Biden and lyin’ Kamala Harris are a great embarrassment to America — there has never been a time like this.”

In his address, Biden praised Harris, who is expected to be the new Democratic presidential nominee. Biden, in his fourth Oval Office address and potentially his last, referred to Harris as “experienced,” “tough,” and “capable.”
The 81-year-old president expressed his deep respect for the presidency but emphasized that his love for the country and the need to protect democracy were more important than holding the office. Biden announced that he would step down to allow a new generation of leadership to guide the nation, saying, “The defense of democracy, which is at stake, is more important than any title.” He argued that this change was necessary to achieve national unity.
Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 race came later than any previous president, following intense pressure from Democrats after a poorly received debate performance against Trump raised concerns about his age. Speaking in a subdued tone due to a recent Covid infection, Biden used the occasion to highlight his achievements while acknowledging it was time for new leadership.
He noted, “There is a time and a place for new voices, fresh voices — yes, younger voices. And that time and place is now.” Biden’s exit has shifted the focus of Trump’s campaign, which had previously targeted Biden’s age and mental sharpness. Now, Trump, who is 78, is the oldest candidate in US history.
Although Trump had initially called for unity after surviving an assassination attempt on July 13, he was critical of Biden’s speech. Some Republicans have urged Biden to resign entirely, arguing that if he is unfit for reelection, he is also unfit to serve as president. However, Biden insisted he would remain active, stating, “Over the next six months I will be focused on doing my job as president.” The White House has denied any cover-up regarding Biden’s health, while Harris continues to campaign, emphasizing her commitment to the country’s future.
