Telangana Rastra Samiti (TRS) working president and minister K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday clarified that his party will have no poll alliance with the AIMIM in the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

He said, “The TRS is contesting all the 150 divisions in the GHMC elections, and we are, in fact, confident of winning 10 seats in the old city. In the last elections, the TRS had won five seats in the old city and this time we will win 10 seats defeating the MIM in those seats. There is no alliance with MIM.”

Countering allegations that the TRS was planning to hand over the mayor’s post to the Asaduddin Owaisi’s, he said: “Why will the TRS even think of such a move when a woman candidate from the party is going to be the next Mayor of Hyderabad on 4 December.”

Rama Rao was unequivocal in stating that the ruling party would go it alone in the GHMC elections.

Listing out the steps taken by the government for the development of the city, he said Rs 67,000 crore was spent on improving the infrastructure without imposing any burden on people. “We are seeking a public mandate based on development during the last six years. People should decide if they want development or anarchy, divisive politics or decisive policies,” he said.

KTR slammed the BJP government at the Centre for not giving even a rupee for flood relief. He alleged that the Centre ignored Telangana’s request for assistance while it provided all help to Karnataka and Gujarat after the floods in those states.

On the other hand, Unfazed by defeat in the Dubbaka bypoll, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao expressed confidence to win 100 seats in Hyderabad out of 150. He stated “All surveys are showing TRS is winning. In the past, people spoke against TRS and even ran a campaign that the party lost its existence. But every time, the party bounced back with better results.TRS is a powerful political force in the country and `Srirama Raksha’ for the Telangana state.”

The elections for GHMC will be held on 1 December and the results will be declared by 4 December.
