President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the newly-built Tripura Judicial Academy on Wednesday and unveiled a model of the National Law University in the state. This is the first visit of Murmu to Tripura after becoming the president of the country.
President Murmu also interacted with workers and authorities of the Central Tea Processing factory on the first day of her trip.
Before attending an event at the Agartala town hall in the evening, the President is also anticipated to virtually inaugurate a recently constructed MLA hostel and launch several initiatives from Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan.
She will officially open two passenger trains on Thursday, including the Guwahati-Kolkata Express’ extension from Agartala and the Agartala-Jiribam-Agartala Jan Shatabdi Express’ extension to Thangsang, Manipur. She would next travel to Assam after paying a visit to the Tripurasundari temple in the Gomati district.
In the meantime, the CPM announced a boycott of her event, claiming that their leaders and activists had been attacked since 2018 when the Bhartiya Janata Party was in power.
Several events, including a civic reception, were planned for President Droupadi Murmu’s arrival on October 12. The event’s invitees included the state secretary of the CPM as well as current and previous legislators. We warmly welcome her but have chosen to abstain from the ceremony, according to a press release from CPM state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury.
For the past four and a half years, the state has not had a rule of law. Attacks on civic rights and individual freedom are ongoing. The CPM circular went on to say, “We expect that the President would come to see the actual situation in the state and will make efforts to resuscitate the rights of the citizens.
