Delhi Metro is introducing a new feature to simplify travel. Passengers can now book auto-rickshaws or bikes for pickup and drop-off through the Delhi Metro app, Momentum 2.0. This service aims to fix first and last-mile connectivity issues.
How the Service Works
Delhi Metro has partnered with Rapido to provide this facility. The app will suggest the nearest metro stations and the best transport option—auto or bike.
-
It will book a ride from the passenger’s starting point to the nearest metro station.
-
Before the passenger reaches their destination metro station, the app will arrange another ride.
-
If the starting or ending point is close to a metro station, the app will not suggest a ride.
A DMRC official explained, “The app will book a ride to take the passenger from their starting point to the nearest metro station. Just before they reach their destination metro station, another ride will be arranged to complete their journey.”
Smart Booking Without Tracking
The app will estimate travel time and schedule the next ride accordingly. However, it will not account for road congestion or metro delays. Importantly, it will not track commuters’ movements during the booking process.
Boosting Metro Ridership
In February 2024, Delhi Metro recorded a daily ridership of 7.1 million. This new service is expected to make commuting even more convenient and encourage more people to use the metro.
