A tragic road accident occurred in Ludhiana on Saturday night, resulting in the death of a Punjab Police officer and serious injury to another. The incident took place in the Salem Tabri area, where two officers from the Police Control Room (PCR) unit were on duty. They were standing by the roadside eating ice cream when a speeding car struck them.

The driver of the car, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Balwinder Singh of Punjab Police, was reportedly drunk. Following the accident, ASI Balwinder Singh was arrested by the police.

According to reports, the intoxicated ASI lost control of his car due to its high speed, hitting the two PCR officers who were eating ice cream by the roadside. The impact dragged them approximately 15 meters. One officer died on the spot, while the other sustained a fractured leg.

The deceased officer was identified as Head Constable Akashdeep Singh, while ASI Satnam Singh is receiving treatment at DMC Hospital. Salem Tabri police have registered a case against ASI Balwinder Singh and arrested him.

During the incident, the drunk ASI stopped the car only after people started shouting and blocking its path. The crowd apprehended him and subjected him to a beating. Before the police arrived, both injured officers were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where one was declared dead, and the other was reported to be in serious condition.

Inspector Jaideep Jakhar, SHO of Salem Tabri, stated that ASI Balwinder Singh is stationed at Division Number 2 police station. He was returning from Jalandhar Bypass around 12:30 AM when he hit the officers. Head Constable Akashdeep Singh and ASI Satnam Singh were on PCR duty outside an ice cream shop when the incident occurred. Akashdeep Singh’s father, Arjun Singh, mentioned that his son, a father of three, was on duty that night. The accused stated he did not realize how the accident happened.
