Torrential rains in the Central African nation Congo have caused extensive damage of people’s life and property. It has created havoc among the people of the nation, severe rains have destroyed numerous villages across the country, and overall 175 people lost their lives so far, as per the report by Al Jazeera.

According to a statement from the provincial office of South Kivu, a river overflowed on Thursday due to excessive rain, which resulted in significant damage and fatalities in the communities of Bushushu and Nyamukubi. Social media users shared images of crushed homes and roofs covered in thick layers of mud after the weather had cleared. While the majority of Central Africa was battered by severe rains, extensive destruction occurred as heavy rains lay most parts of the area.

Landslides and floods occur frequently in South Kivu.

According to Al Jazeera, South Kivu’s governor, Theo Ngwabidje Kasi, claimed 176 fatalities and added that a huge number of individuals were still missing.

The recent flooding has made the situation severe in Congo as humanitarian situation has further worsened the situation which to some extent was coming on the track after long conflict between various armed groups.

As per the UN census, at least 122 rebel factions were engaged in fighting in the area for over 25 years.

Million of people of the country have left the nation due to military conflict, reported Al Jazeera.
