What is Operation Sindoor? A Summary of India’s Strike on Terror Camps in Pakistan

Following the barbaric terror strike in Pahalgam, India had begun Operation Sindoor, and Indian Air Force planes bombed nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK. The Indian Air Force aircraft struck at major terrorist infrastructure, such as the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur. The Indian Army confirmed that the strikes were an act of retaliation after the fatal attack on April 22 that claimed the lives of 26 individuals, including 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen.

Precision Strikes and Targeted Infrastructure

The operation involved the use of advanced precision strike weapons such as standoff missiles and loitering munitions. Senior officials disclosed that the intelligence agencies offered precise coordinates to ensure the strikes landed on terrorist camps instead of Pakistani military locations. Indian air force jets and other military forces were engaged to conduct the operation, which was considered focused and non-escalatory. The Army made clear that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, but the main target was to counter terrorist infrastructure involved in planning and conducting attacks on India.

Focused and Measured Response

India’s reaction after the operation highlighted that the strikes were calibrated and proportionate, with utmost restraint exercised in choosing the targets. The Indian Army explained that the operation was intended to dismantle terror groups operating in PoJK and Pakistan, which have been responsible for various attacks on Indian territory. The release again reiterated that the response was a direct result of the Pahalgam attack, and India remains determined to bring those responsible to justice.

Pakistan’s Response and Mounting Tensions

After the operation, Pakistan’s military confirmed that three targets were struck—two in PoJK and one in Bahawalpur. Pakistan also suspended its airspace for 48 hours against the strikes. Pakistan has also violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) with increased artillery shelling, and India has taken retaliatory action.

Prime Minister Modi Grants Operational Freedom

The attacks were conducted at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had provided the Indian armed forces complete operational freedom to react to the Pahalgam attack. With the operation ongoing, India and Pakistan are still on high alert with each side bracing for action and international focus on the developing situation.
