US President Donald Trump announced a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan, attributing the breakthrough to American mediation. However, within hours of the declaration, tensions flared again as drone sightings and explosions were reported overnight in Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian security forces swiftly activated their air defence systems in response to the aerial threats. Despite Trump’s claims, official sources in India clarified that the ceasefire understanding was not mediated by any external party but was instead the result of direct dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad. They also emphasized that the agreement was reached “without any preconditions, postconditions, or linkages to other issues.”
Late Saturday night, India accused Pakistan of breaching the ceasefire terms, casting doubt over the deal’s sustainability. While the reported violations raised fresh alarms, the border regions remained largely calm throughout the night, and residents resumed their daily routines the following morning.
The situation remains fragile as both nations walk a tightrope between diplomatic de-escalation and on-ground realities.
