An earthquake of 5.4 magnitude hit Western Texas, around 50 miles west of Pecos, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The independent scientific body initially estimated the tremor at 6.5 magnitude before revising it. The quake was strong enough to prompt safety advisories, although no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage have surfaced.
The EMSC also issued a cautionary statement via X, warning residents about potential aftershocks in the coming hours or days. “Unless it is necessary stay away from damaged areas for your safety. Be careful and follow national authorities’ information,” the advisory read. Residents in the affected region are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to official updates.
This is a developing story.
