Protests Outside Indian High Commission in Islamabad Over Pahalgam Attack | Watch

Rallies broke out outside the Indian High Commission office in Islamabad on April 24, 2025, after protesters expressed outrage against India for its recent activity following the catastrophic terror attack that took place at Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The environment turned volatile rather quickly, and some of the protesters tried scaling the diplomatic compound gates while other protesters charged in the direction of the building. Heavy security contingents were released in an effort to keep matters under control while avoiding any possibility of escalation.

India’s Retaliatory Actions Spark Outrage

The demonstrations follow India’s series of retaliatory actions after the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 27 civilians, one of the deadliest attacks in recent times. India’s government has accused Pakistan-based militants of carrying out the attack, further straining relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. In retaliation against the Pahalgam attack, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, ordered Pakistani military advisers out of its high commission in New Delhi, and restricted the travel of Pakistani nationals.

Escalating Tensions Along the Border

The escalating military and diplomatic tensions have already caused considerable unrest along both sides of the border. In Pakistan, the government has decried India’s move, while nationalist forces have taken the opportunity to protest against what they characterize as India’s “aggressive” posture. The Pahalgam attack on civilians at a heavily visited tourist destination has inflamed widespread wrath among Pakistanis, who see the Indian government’s move as unwarranted.

Security personnel were observed driving the crowds back, using barricades and patrolling around the area of the High Commission. Reports suggest that the protesters had become more vocal, chanting slogans against India’s policies, especially following what they perceive as “unprovoked actions” against Pakistan.

Social Media Shows Escalating Frustration

Video posted on social media, depicts huge crowds of protesters outside the embassy, with some trying to climb over the gates. The pictures depict increasing frustration and anger at India’s reaction to the Pahalgam attack.

The Indian High Commission has so far remained silent on the protest, but the diplomatic compound is still on high alert. As both countries prepare themselves for further confrontation, the international community looks on closely. With these worsening tensions, the situation in Islamabad and on the other side of the border remains unstable, with the likelihood of future protests and worsening diplomatic fallout.
