Emphasizing the need for AI to be accessible to everyone, especially in the Global South, with limited resources and capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed this during an address at the AI Action Summit in Paris. PM Modi underlined AI’s revolutionary power for sectors like health, education, and agriculture.
“Governance is also about access to all, especially in the Global South. It is where the capabilities are most lacking in power, talent, or data for financial resources,” said PM Modi. He added that AI has the power to transform millions of lives by improving critical sectors, which in turn would accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a much faster and more efficient manner.

The Prime Minister called for the world to act together so AI does not worsen the inequalities between nations, but instead creates a common good. He stressed the need to develop open-source that increases source and trust while creating high-quality data sets with no bias at all.
Global AI Governance Need
PM Modi called for greater international cooperation to institute structures and norms in AI because it is progressing at an unprecedented rate of deployment and development. “AI is emerging at a speed and scale unseen before; adaptation and deployment happen even more quickly,” said PM Modi. “There is also deep interdependence across borders. Thus, there is a need for collective global efforts to establish governance and standards that uphold our shared values, address risks, and build trust.”

He added that governance is not just conflict management but innovation in the interest of the collective good. “We need to think deeply and talk openly about innovation and governance,” he urged.
PM Modi Talks about the Future Danger of AI
PM Modi during his speech has also admitted some concerns of people about AI as well as some risks of the same. Talking about the scare of AI replacing human brains by becoming superior to humans in intellect, he says, “Some people are scared that machines could become super-smart compared to humans. However, none but us hold the key to the collective future and shared destiny. That sense of responsibility must guide us.”
He cited examples of India’s indigenous AI work, such as the creation of a large model specifically designed for India’s linguistic ecology. PM Modi further underlined India’s unique public-private partnership model, which aggregates resources such as computing power and makes them accessible to startups and researchers at an affordable cost. “India is ready to share its experience and expertise to ensure that AI’s future is for good and for all,” he affirmed.
Future of AI and the Role of India in Global Innovation
PM Modi’s speech had a strong statement on India’s commitment to AI for the good of the global community, particularly those who needed more access to resources and technology. By encouraging open-source systems and fair data practices, India is at the forefront of the development of AI for the common good of all nations.
As the world moves forward in the age of AI, PM Modi’s message at the AI Action Summit serves as a call to action for global collaboration and innovation with shared responsibility.
