Islamabad Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday vowed that Pakistan will resolve all disputes with India at the negotiating table, including over Kashmir. Shehbaz was speaking at a special session of the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad on the “Kashmir Solidarity Day,” appealing to India to abide by the UN commitments and start talks with Pakistan.

Every year, Pakistan organizes “Kashmir Solidarity Day” to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir. Sharif demanded peaceful negotiations while appealing to India to reconsider its decision after August 5, 2019, when the Indian government revoked Article 370, which took away the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

I remember the Lahore Declaration of December 1999, signed between then Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and his Pakistani counterpart,” Sharif said. “Talks are the only option available.” He added that Pakistan would maintain moral, diplomatic, and political support for the people of Kashmir until such time as the UN Security Council resolutions are enacted upon and the people of Kashmir have their right to self-determination materialized.

India has maintained that Jammu and Kashmir, including Ladakh, is an integral part of the country, and it has always wanted normal bilateral relations with Pakistan in a terror-free and hostility-free environment.

Sharif lambasted India’s military buildup, saying piling up weapons would not bring peace or alter the situation in Kashmir. Instead, he asked New Delhi to focus on dialogue for regional stability.

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Sharif requested the international community to force India into allowing the Kashmiris to determine their future. PoK’s “Prime Minister” Anwarul Haq once again reiterated that this state will be at peace only by finding a solution for the problem of Kashmir. Pak armed forces continued to demand their commitment towards Kashmiri nation while performing their function.
