Pakistan Open to Neutral Probe into Pahalgam Attack: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that his country is open to a “neutral investigation” into the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which occurred earlier this week, claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists.

According to a report by AFP, Sharif expressed Pakistan’s willingness to cooperate with a fair and unbiased inquiry into the incident. His statement comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the attack.

Warning on Sovereignty

Sharif also made it clear that Pakistan would not compromise on its national interests. He emphasized, as quoted, that Pakistan is “prepared to defend sovereignty.” The Pahalgam attack sparked international outrage. Investigations by Indian authorities have linked the assault to Pakistan-based terrorist outfits. In response, India has taken a series of strong diplomatic and economic actions against Islamabad.

Now, with Sharif signaling openness to an independent investigation, it remains to be seen whether this will help reduce tensions or escalate the standoff further.
