In response to the 26 fatalities resulting from the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, the government of Jammu and Kashmir declared a compensation of ₹10 lakh for the family of each of the victims. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced it on Wednesday through a statement he posted on X, along with denouncing the “barbaric and senseless act of brutality” committed against civilians.

Financial Aid Announced for Victims and Survivors

“no amount of money can ever compensate for the loss of loved ones,” said Abdullah. “but as a mark of support and solidarity, the J&K government announces an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the victim.” He also announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh to those injured seriously in the attack and ₹1 lakh to the injured with minor injuries.

Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We share in your grief and stand by you in this dark hour,” Abdullah said.

Investigation In Progress, NIA Also Joins Investigation at Pahalgam

The gruesome attack occurred on Tuesday in the picturesque Baisaran meadow close to Pahalgam—a travel destination referred to as ‘mini Switzerland.’ Militant terrorists began firing at civilians, and 26 of them were killed, while several others were injured, including tourists. A National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has now reached the site to help with the investigation.

“Terror will never break our resolve. We will not rest until those behind this barbarity are brought to justic,” declared the Chief Minister, highlighting the government’s determination to make the perpetrators accountable for the attack.

While investigations are ongoing and the country is grieving, the government is increasing relief activities for the victims and their families, and efforts to bring the perpetrators to book.
