Pahalgam Terror Attack Fallout: 6 Cops Moved Out of Anantnag

Six days after the Pahalgam terrorist strike, six police officers have been shifted out of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, as per an official order released Monday.

Among these postings, the most prominent one is the posting of Inspector Reyaz Ahmad, who has been posted out from Pahalgam Police Station, which is a high-profile and sensitive location where 26 individuals, the majority of whom were tourists, were killed in an attack unleashed by terrorists suspected of having Pakistan linkages.

Inspector Ahmad has now been posted to ASP Camp in Aishmuqam for additional tasks, Other police officials transferred are Jammu and Kashmir police officers Aishmuqam, Nisar Ahmad, Peer Ahmad Gulzar, Salinder Singh, and Parvaiz Ahmad.

Although the police department has not made any official statement regarding the reason for the transfers, the decision comes in the wake of one of the deadliest terror attacks on Kashmir in years, fueling speculation regarding probable lapses in local security monitoring.

The reshuffle also occurs at a time when Anantnag continues to be the epicenter of security operations and post-terror attack surveillance following recent unrest in the area.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: What Happened

On April 22, terrorists believed to have a connection with Pakistan fired shots at tourists in Pahalgam of Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, the majority of them being holidayers. The civilian attack evoked expressions of shock from all over the nation and had the security tightened throughout the Union Territory.

Security authorities initiated a huge manhunt for the perpetrators, with intelligence agencies attempting to track the network suspected to be behind the attack.

India’s Response: Diplomatic and Strategic Steps

India has announced a series of retaliatory measures against Pakistan in the wake of the attack, such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the only functioning land border crossing at Attari, and downgrading diplomatic relations.

Earlier on April 24, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to punish the terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam terror attack and their sponsors, assuring the country that the perpetrators would not be spared.
