A missile-like object plunged into Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake on Saturday morning, sparking a loud explosion and thick clouds of smoke that alarmed residents and tourists nearby. The incident occurred unexpectedly, prompting an immediate response from security personnel stationed in the area.
Officials confirmed that the object caused significant disturbance before sinking into the lake. Security teams quickly launched a retrieval operation and managed to recover debris from the water. “The material has been sent for forensic analysis,” one official said. Around the same time, another suspicious object was discovered in Lasjan, on the city’s outskirts, and is currently being examined by experts.

Authorities have launched a high-level investigation into both incidents. “We are not ruling out any possibilities, and both cases are being thoroughly probed,” the official added. Security forces across the Valley have been placed on high alert, with surveillance and monitoring intensified as precautionary measures.
