A spine-chilling video has surfaced from Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, recording the precise moment terrorists ambushed tourists with a fatal attack. A tourist, who was filming unaware, recorded the pandemonium as bullets rang out and panicked screams filled the valley. The viral video on social media features the sounds of shots and tourists crying for assistance.

In the video, individuals are seen running for cover in the picturesque Baisaran meadow, popularly referred to as ‘mini Switzerland’. The attack took place on Tuesday afternoon, killing 26 individuals — the worst terror attack in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

Eyewitness: “We Thought It Was Firecrackers”

In an interview with India Today, one of the survivors recalled the horror moment. “We thought it was firecrackers when we heard two to three rounds. When we heard people screaming, we ran for our lives,” he recalled. “Such an attack has never happened there. This is probably the first time that such an attack has happened there. We never believed that such a thing would happen,  as the atmosphere was peaceful. It is unfortunate.”

A second video taken by a resident also emerged, with visitors fleeing in terror as automatic weapons fire erupts. Screaming and chaos ring out in the video, emphasizing the immediacy and magnitude of the attack.

Amit Shah in Srinagar, Chairs Emergency Security Meet

Hours after the assault, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar to evaluate the security scenario. He drove straight from the airport to Raj Bhavan and then presided over a high-level meeting of the top security brass. Shah’s visit is a reflection of the severity of the situation and the Centre’s swift reaction to the gun violence.

TRF Claims Responsibility of Pahalgam Attack

The officials said the terrorists opened fire on tourists who were having fun in the grasslands, taking pony rides or having meals at local stalls at Pahalgam. The Terrorist Resistance Front (TRF), a front of the outlawed Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), took responsibility for the massacre.

The authorities suspect the terrorists had entered Kashmir from Kishtwar and traveled to Baisaran through Kokernag in south Kashmir.
