Indian expatriates in the United Kingdom organized a protest outside the Pakistan High Commission in London on Friday to denounce the fatal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The protest follows the April 22 attack that claimed at least 28 lives, including foreign nationals, in one of the worst terror attacks in the region since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
Global Condemnation Over Pahalgam Attack
Carrying placards that stated “Stop Cross-Border Terrorism” and “Justice for Pahalgam Victims,” demonstrators protested in large numbers outside the diplomatic offices. Protestors demanded stringent international action against terror groups based in Pakistan that were reportedly behind the attack. “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Down with Terrorism” slogans reverberated on the streets as protestors hoisted Indian flags and held a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the victims.

The Pahalgam attack, which hit a crowded tourist spot in south Kashmir, has evoked international outrage. Militants opened indiscriminate fire on tourists before a bomb went off, resulting in chaos and widespread casualties. The act has further escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, with New Delhi accusing Pakistan-based terror groups of masterminding the attack.
The London protestors lashed out at Pakistan’s inaction against terrorist groups using its territory and called on the world to pressure Islamabad into being responsible for hosting terror elements.
Increased Security, Growing Diplomatic Tensions
Security was increased around the High Commission, and local police were deployed to ensure that the protest was peaceful. There were no reports of violence or disruption.
This demonstration is against the backdrop of increased diplomatic tensions between the two South Asian neighbors. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and has expelled Pakistani diplomats, whereas Pakistan issued retaliatory comments and taken tit-for-tat actions. The United Nations and other international onlookers urged both sides to exercise restraint so that matters do not escalate further.
Indian expatriate communities worldwide have condemned the Pahalgam terror attack, and they expect solidarity marches and demonstrations in other cities across the country in the coming days.
