Shaw, of the 182nd Battalion, had been allegedly working near the Ferozepur sector within Punjab when, in error, he crossed into the International Border. He had been in his uniform and with his service rifle at the time. Shaw crossed into Pakistani terrain unknowingly in his movement toward a shaded patch to rest throughout his duty day, according to initial reports.
After almost three weeks in detention, Shaw’s handover was arranged between Pakistani and Indian authorities. Upon his return, security officials are now debriefing him according to standard procedure in such cross-border cases.
This tranquil resolution indicates the significance of keeping open lines of communication between both countries, even in the face of existing tensions.
